More than 1,770 Special Olympics Michigan athletes from all over the state will compete on March 6 in the Special Olympics Michigan District Basketball Tournament. The tournament will be held in six different sites, including St. John's, Bay City, Northville, Saline, Caledonia and Escanaba. There will be 32 of the 39 local area districts of Special Olympics Michigan represented at the tournament with more than 170 teams competing. Games will consist of four 6-minute quarters. Medals and ribbons will be awarded directly following the competition. "It's amazing to see the talent that Special Olympics Michigan athletes have, especially with so many teams playing," said Director of Sports and Training, Heather Burke.
Winners of the District Basketball Tournament will then advance to the State Basketball Finals later this month in Grandville. Special Events including arts & crafts and other interactive activities will be held throughout the day. For more information contact Heather Burke at 989-774-3911 or burke1hn@cmich.edu.
