If you’ve ever wished you could be on CBS’s The Amazing Race, then the Great Michigan Race is for you.
Benefiting Special Olympics Michigan athletes, the Great Michigan Race is a one day event consisting of 200 four-person teams competing to be the first to make it successfully to the final destination.
Each team will be given a series of clues that will ultimately lead them to their final destination. Throughout the course of the day teams will also have to conquer 10 different challenge sites that test them physically and mentally. Not every teammate will compete in every challenge, so all multitudes of people are encouraged to participate because you never know who’s skills and background are going to come in handy.
The event takes place this year on Sunday, October 17, in Rochester. The first 200 teams to register will compete in the event. In order to participate, each person must be 18 years and older, with a valid ID and in good health. There is a $200 non-refundable deposit due at sign-up to hold your team’s place, and an additional $300 due by July 1 to reserve a spot at the starting line.
Incentives for teams who raise an additional funds for the event include logoed merchandise for a total of $1,000 raised, “Fast Pass” to skip a challenge along the race for $1,500 and $2,500 raised, 10 minutes deducted off the overall team for $2,500 raised, entered into a drawing for a weekend get-a-way at Michigan Adventure for $5,000 raised and any teams that raises a total of $10,000 or more will be V.I.P. guest at Special Olympics Michigan’s opening ceremonies for either the Winter or Summer Games.
All proceeds from the Great Michigan Race go directly to Special Olympics Michigan. Through donations and unique fundraisers, Special Olympics Michigan is able to continue to provide their programs at no cost to more than 18,621 athletes and their families.
